Fragile X

What Is Fragile X

Fragile X is the most common inherited form of mental retardation. It results from a change,or mutation, in a single gene. And if a family member had Fragile X it woul be possible to pass it on from generation to generation.

Symptoms

It occurs when the mutated gene cannot produce enough of a protein that the body cells need, and by this I mean brain cells. But the mosst noticable symptom is intellegence.

Extra Facts

Males with Fragile X have a IQ of 75 or below, but differs from females. Some females have metal impairment, learning disabilities, and some have a normal IQ. Characteristics of people with Fragile X have large  ears and long faces. Also problems with sensations, emotions, in speech, language, and physical.

Cure

No cure for Fragile X at this time. But treatments are usedto reduce symptoms. Treatments for childern that recieve the proper education needed. Medication options, and theraputic options. These are treatments that help victums of Fragile X and help them trough life as the move on from child to adult or vice versa.

Genes and People Effected by Fragile X (estimates)

The name of the mutated gene is FMR1.
These are the estimates of males with Fragile X

  • 3,500 to 8, 900 males are affected by full mutation of the gene.

  • 1 to 1000 are effected by premutation.
These are the estimates of females with Fragile X

  • 1 in 250 to 500 females are affected by premutation.
  • 1 to 4000 females affected by full mutation.

Adults With Fragile X

With proper treatment and education people with Fragile X can live on their own and hold and maintain a job.

Blog Post #6

  1. My Favorite Geology topic this year was learning about Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic rocks, because I got see rocks I've never seen before and also experiment on them as well.
  2. My favorite Meteorolgy topic was learn about all types of diffrent clouds originating from cirrus clouds, stratus, and also cumulus clouds.
  3. My favorite Astronomy topic was talking about black holes and how our universe was created. It was also my favorite subject because we can learn only so much about our solar system and the universe that I wanted to learn more.
  4. I think I made a 93 - 96 because I looked at my previous quizes I've tooken from the past weeks and also did my crossword puzzles as well. I wish I had done better on all my test because I could have had an A in this class, but I never study.

Blog post 4

1. What made the Big Bang "bang?" In other words, why didn't the universe just stay in a tiny little sphere the size of a golfball? The universe couldn't contain all the stars, galaxies, planets, planetecimals. So they all kept on expanding until the point when the universe couldn't hold as much as it could which created the Big Bang when there came to be atoms like protons and neutrons, also even elctrons which later will form today's solar system and universe.

2. What do you think would happen if you went into a black hole? Scientists only know what happens until you get to the event horizon. Anything beyond that is really just an educated guess. You don't know if or when you are getting sucked in until the point where you are being crushed into the size of a golf ball.

3. Tell me what you think about worm holes? When you pass through one, where do you go? WHEN do you go?  I think a worm hole is a teleporter because if you were to go through one you'll would end up in a diffrent time period, and a diffrent place. Maybe it might be just the same place, but just in a diffrent time.

Blog Post 3

1. What are the four ways scientists can detect planets?

Radical velocity, Astrometry, transit method, Optical detection.
2. Which way makes the most sense to you? Explain it.
The transit method is when a planet blocks out a star, and you can see a black dot moving.

The Goldilocks Zone

3. Explain the concept of the "Goldilocks Zone."
To be close to it's home star so that the surface won't get to hot nor to cold.
4. If Gilese 581c does have life, what do you think it would look like? How would it act? Would it be intelligent? It might be just a big ocean with land underneath it. It would act like a ocean with vegitation underneath.

5. Do you believe in aliens? Why or why not? Give me a solid paragraph. Yes, because there are so many other planets and also solar systems, so there might be a good chance that there might be life on those planets. Not exactly the aliens we would think, but like tiny microorgnisms. Another thing is people say they have been adducted so that's an indicator to me.

1. What is the primary gas in the Jovian atmospheres? The primary gas is Hydrogen

2. What is the primary gas in Mars and Venus? The primary gas is Carbon dioxide
3. If you had to visit one planet, which would it be? Why? Give me a solid paragraph. (consider many factors such as location, temperature, atmosphere composition, and anything else you you feel is important) If I was to visit a planet I would say Pluto because it is an unexplored planet that pleople have not been to. I know that it's really cold, and I like cold places. Pluto might contain diffrent gases that we don't know of, and I would want to discover them myself.

Pluto
I found Pluto to be interesting because it's considered one of the smallest planet's we know today or a dwarf planet.Pluto is real far away from the sun where it gets really no heat what so ever. Pluto is made of gases like helium and hydrogen. which it can't support human life.

Asteroid Belt
The asteroid belt is a big ring or belt of asteroids. Asteroid's can differ in size from big tpo small. If they were to hit they would be knocked far away, or they would just collide with each other.

Apollo's Mission
The mission was to the moon and descover diffrent rocks and  to get samples.

Search for Aliens
Right now we are searching for aliens as we speak. We believe that planets with liquid water( not including earth) support alien life underneath the suface. But people say aliens come from Mars.

International Space Station
This space station cooperates with all tyhe diffrent nations. And they work together to discover diffrent characterisics of the planets.
